A deadly gnome hidden in leaves
 AUTHOR & FRIEND PHOTOS

For the curious who like to see the face behind the words, here is a small collection of my promotional photos, appearances and other pictorial representations of yours truly and other authors within reach of my shoddy photography skills.

My formal promotional photos were taken by Rebecca Walk of Rebecca Walk Photography in Nashville, TN. Though it has been a few years, I am pleased that they are still accurate.

Action shots, so to speak:

I made that. Yes, yes I did. April 2012.
I have a hobby, and it's not writing! That's my job. My hobby is tap dancing. In May 2011, I appeared briefly as Mary Poppins in mine and my daughters' spring recital. Let's just say my part did NOT involve any vocals.
In October 2010, I did an interview with Keith Melton of Scribbling Ninjas who kindly illustrated me and Meankitty defending the world against a gnome invasion. In real life gnomes are a little smaller, but Keith enlarged them to show detail.
We did opt to see the Lower Yellowstone Falls. There were about 10 steep switchbacks on a mule-style trail that descended 800 feet, I think. It was worth it (now that it's over).
Yellowstone has tons of hot springs, as I'm sure you all know. I think this is the Norris Geyser basin, and we're standing in front of the part of the trail we opted NOT to take. There's only so much you have time to see in a park as big as Yellowstone.
Monica and I resting after the Jenny Lake hike. Shortly after this we shelled out some bucks to catch a boat home instead of hike several miles back the way we'd come.
In September 2010, I did something I'd never done before, which was go to Yellowstone National Park. I took the trip with my dear husband, my writer friend Monica McCabe, and her dear husband. Here are me, Monica and my DH on the trail to the Hidden Waterfall behind Jenny Lake. That might not be the actual name, but it wasn't much of a waterfall comparatively, so...
June 2010. Maybe. I (left) went to one of Sherri Kenyon's (middle) local book release parties with my writing friend Gretchen Stull (right).
In May 2010, a couple significant romance-writery things happened in Nashville, TN. One, Gena Showalter had a booksigning and I got to go. Pictured--me, standing, Gena and Trish Milburn.

Two, shortly after this photo event, the flooding in Nashville reached record highs (can you see the rain in the window?) and the city was declared a disaster area. The RWA National Conference in July had to be relocated due to the flooding; the hotel where it was going to be suffered too much damage. I wrote about my admittedly minor flood experience here on the blog.

In February 2010, Beth Pattillo, Annie Solomon and I gave a speech about the romance writing industry to the Nashville chapter of the WNBA. In summary, it's crazy out there and please teach your kids not to steal digital files.
In July 2009, MCRW, my local RWA chapter, had 3 members who were up for Golden Heart Awards during the annual National Convention. As we were not all able to travel to Washington, DC, to wish them well, a group of MCRW members conglomerated at the home of member Annie Solomon and ate a wonderful dinner and dressed up in vintage gowns, kindly provided by me from my vast and normally useless collection.

Photo 1: The hostess with the absolute mostest, plus a way with cakes and other baked goods -- Annie "June Cleaver" Solomon!

Photo 2: This lovely bevy of beauties, l-r: Renee Payne, Nicole Byrd, Gretchen Stull, Amanda Gillespie
Photo 3: Author Nicole Byrd and I are sporting two of the loudest dresses of the evening. Here's a secret: mine is actually PANTS.
Photo 4: Does the dress in the middle look familiar? It was a popular choice for the evening! These floral delights are: Marie-Nicole Ryan, Missy Lyons and Monica McCabe

Photos 5 & 6: Another popular choice was the black Asian gown, modeled by first Marie-Nicole Ryan and then Gretchen Stull, both glamorous, both awesome writers, both blessed with some shapely gams.
Photo 7: I was going for Bride #6 in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers here, I think. The fun thing about this dress is that the tag on the inside says "Romantica" -- and was probably made before the creator of Ellora's Cave was born!
Photo 8: I love the smile on Amanda Gillespie's face here as she models her vintage beret and go-go girl dress!
Photo 9: Gretchen and I probably tried on the most different outfits. Here is Gretchen looking ravishing in a peach polyester number from the 60's.
Photo 10: Nicole Byrd was also enticed into several different ensembles. We all thought this was probably a bridesmaid's dress from the 60's or 70's. Nicole has already kicked off her dyed to match shoes.
Photo 11: Here I am in another pink dress, one of my favorite collection items. This one's an Eva Gabor gown. The boa is courtesy of the daughters of Amanda Gillespie.
Photo 12: In a lightweight polyester lounge gown and her own vampirella boots, author Renee Payne works the, uh, wall sconce.
Photo 13: Nicole Byrd and hostess Annie Solomon are modeling some prime 1970's selections here and seem quite pleased about it, if you ask me.
Photo 14: By far my favorite photo of the evening (which took only a teeny tweak in my photo editing program) was hostess Annie Solomon giving us the Charlie's Angel's What For.

In late August 2009, we had another booksigning at the lovely Sherlock's Books, in Lebanon, TN.

Photo 1: Authors Marie-Nicole Ryan and Ramona Richards

Photo 2: Authors Haley Elizabeth Garwood and Shannon Dauphin / Gwen Masters

Photo 3: Authors moi and Trish Milburn / Tricia Mills

After my local chapter's January 2009 meeting, Barbara Vey, who blogs for Publisher's Weekly at Beyond Her Book, stopped by for lunch and a chat.

First shot:  Barbara Vey and author Marie-Nicole Ryan

Second shot: Aspiring author Monica McCabe (Adventure Girl!) and Barbara Vey

Third shot: Barbara Vey and yours truly in need of a haircut

Fourth shot: The whole lunch gang from MCRW and Barbara Vey

A photo of me from the December 6, 2008, booksigning in Jackson, TN, at the library where MCRW member Arlene Griffin works. I was recovering from a stomach bug my children kindly shared with me a day or two prior to the signing. This photo was taken by participating author Marie-Nicole Ryan. Other participants were Beth Pattillo, Shannon Dauphin, Ramona Richards, Missy Lyons, Trish Milburn and Annie Solomon.

More photos of the November 8, 2008, booksigning, taken by participating author Trish Milburn.

First shot: Trish and MCRW author Shannon Dauphin, who also writes as Gwen Masters.

Second shot: MCRW authors Annie Solomon and Ramona Richards

Third shot: MCRW and fellow Samhain author Marie-Nicole Ryan and me.

Fourth shot: Trish again (hey, it was her camera!) and MCRW member Kim Grooms, who writes great contemporary romances.

Fifth shot: Kim had visited the bookstore the night before the signing and kindly snapped a cell phone shot of Susannah's shelf debut, nestled so comfortably between stacks of Secrets 17 & 22.

Marie-Nicole Ryan, reader Jennifer Ray (Wild on Books), and me at the beginning of the signing. Jennifer took more pictures of the signing here: http://www.gallery.wildonbooks.com/coppermine/thumbnails.php?album=6

Both of these photos were taken at the November 8, 2008, group author booksigning at the wonderful independent bookstore, Sherlock's Books, in Lebanon, TN.

Other authors at the signing included Sherri Kenyon, Ramona Richards, Trish Milburn, Shannon Dauphin/Gwen Masters, Annie Solomon, Hayley Elizabeth Garwood, Marie-Nicole Ryan, Dianna Love, Alethea Kontis & Missy Lyons. For more pictures, my detailed blog post about it is here.

From left: Monica McCabe, Erin Moore, Missy Lyons and me at the launch party for fellow MCRW member Sherri Kenyon's novel Acheron in early August 2008. It was crazy and v. humid!  August in Nashville is not comfortable climate-wise.

Me at the Lori Foster Readers and Writers Get Together in 2008, along with about 100 other authors. This photo was taken by Kathy at http://www.kathysreviewcorner.com/.

Me and only me at the Lori Foster Readers and Writers Get Together in 2008. This photo was taken by my friend and best-selling author Anya Bast.

Me at a holiday party with 3 fine ladies who must be the only 3 authors in my local RWA chapter, MCRW, who are shorter than I am!  From the left: Marie-Nicole Ryan, Monica McCabe, me, Cheryl Martin.
